Kuwait Tenancy Law Overview

Kuwait's tenancy law is primarily governed by the Civil Code (Law No. 67 of 1980) and specific rent control legislation. The law requires all lease agreements to be in writing and registered with the Kuwait Municipality for legal recognition.

Landlords must provide adequate notice before termination or non-renewal of a lease. The standard notice period for residential tenancies is typically 3 months. Eviction can only be pursued through the courts, and tenants have strong protections against arbitrary eviction.

Rent disputes are handled by the Rent Assessment Committee and the civil courts. The committee has authority to determine fair market rent in disputed cases and can adjust rents that are significantly above or below market rates.
