Qatar Employment Law Overview
Qatar Labour Law No. 14 of 2004 governs all private-sector employment in the State of Qatar. The law covers employment contracts, working hours, leave entitlements, termination procedures, and end-of-service benefits. Recent amendments have strengthened worker protections, including the introduction of a minimum wage and the removal of the requirement for employer NOC to change jobs.
All employment contracts must be in writing and in Arabic. Contracts must specify the job title, salary, working hours, and contract duration. The Ministry of Labour reviews and approves employment contracts for foreign workers as part of the work permit process.
