Understanding Notice Periods in the UAE

Under Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, the minimum notice period for resigning from a UAE employer is 30 days. Your employment contract can specify a longer period, up to 90 days, but cannot go below 30 days for confirmed employees.

During the probation period (maximum 6 months), the notice period is 14 days if you are leaving the UAE. If you are moving to another UAE employer, you must give at least 1 month's notice even during probation.

If you leave without serving your full notice period, your employer can claim compensation equal to your salary for the unserved days. This is commonly called "payment in lieu of notice" and can be deducted from your final settlement.

Your employer can also choose to waive the notice period and release you immediately. In this case, they must still pay your full salary for the notice period. You cannot be forced to leave without pay.
